PH 398 1844. Entire from STONEHAVEN (KINCARDINESHIRE) to LONDON. Double arc, serifed, stonham, datestamp in black, with red, paid handstamp of EDINBURGH and single rim, Tombstone, paid mark. All on face with red manuscript "1" charge mark. £8.00 [PH 398]
PH 302 1844 (6th Mar). Letter from Timothy Ring, from Cork, to the Court of Directors, East India Company, London, regarding: "Death of my son, Michael Ring, late Private (210) of the European Regiment Light Infantry Madrass Establishment, who died in India on the 6th August, 1842". He wants to know how much he is entitled to receive out of his son's effects. It appears from writing across front of letter that he was entitled to £42-3-5. Face of letter bears an unframed, black, double arc: "CORK/MR6/1844" datestamp, and a red square boxed: "PAID/MR7/1844" datestamp, and a red manuscript "l", charge mark, and a single rim Tombstone: "U/PAID/9MR9/1844", datestamp.
